Nebesys: Reimagining Roofs, Illuminating Lives

Published on June 11, 2025

From Attic Shadows to Architectural Innovation

Nebesys began with a question most people never ask: What if roofs could bring in light without compromising tradition?
What started as a bold idea in the mind of Czech founder Přemysl Kokeš turned into one of the most inventive breakthroughs in architectural design — a transparent roofing system that retains the classic look of a tiled roof while transforming dark, forgotten attics into sunlit living spaces.

A Global Breakthrough: Winning the Creative Business Cup

In 2023, Nebesys gained international spotlight when it won the Creative Business Cup Global Finals, held in Copenhagen. Beating out startups from over 80 countries, Nebesys was the first Czech company to ever win the title.

Their journey began when CzechInvest, the national partner of the Creative Business Network, selected Nebesys as the Czech representative. From there, the global stage amplified their story, opening doors to international investors, architectural collaborations, and strategic partnerships.

The win wasn't just a trophy — it was validation. It confirmed that creativity and sustainability can redefine how we live, work, and design.

The Founding Vision

With a background in innovation and a deep understanding of architectural limitations, Kokeš saw potential in a space most people ignore — the attic. He imagined a roofing solution that would preserve the external character of historic and modern buildings while flooding interior spaces with natural light. Together with architect and creative director Zuzana Ambrožová, he dedicated over a decade to research, experimentation, and prototyping.

Their relentless work culminated in the launch of Nebesys in 2022, introducing a system that uses advanced, thermally efficient, translucent modules to make traditional-looking roofs function like skylights — a true fusion of form and function.

Innovation at its core

The Nebesys system is a creative rethink of architecture’s most overlooked component: roofs. Designed to be both energy-efficient and aesthetically adaptive, the system includes:

·      Translucent roofing modules that bring in diffused daylight

·      Compatibility with heritage and urban conservation zones

·      Integration options for energy self-sufficiency

·      Cooling systems using rainwater

·      Patented structural components that mimic traditional rooflines

By allowing full daylight to enter while preserving privacy and insulation, Nebesys empowers architects and homeowners to reimagine attics as vibrant, usable spaces.

Their mission remains bold yet simple:
Transform roofs from dead space into dynamic, light-filled environments — without changing what they look like.

Why It Matters for Cultural and Creative Industries (CCI)

Nebesys exemplifies how architectural creativity and design innovation can solve real-world problems, protect cultural heritage, and redefine how we use space — making it a model case for the transformative power of creativity in built environments.
