Creative Business Cup 2024 Finalist Fintr is reimagining financial literacy through gamification

Published on July 24, 2025

We're excited to highlight Fintr, Creative Business 2024 finalist,  tackling one of South Africa's most pressing challenges: financial literacy among children and families.

The Problem

Financial literacy often remains a taboo topic in households, contributing to cycles of poverty that many South Africans face. Founders Elijah Djan and Danei Rall experienced this firsthand, which drove them to create solutions that make learning about money engaging and accessible.

The Approach

Fintr combines vital financial knowledge with gamified learning, allowing children to practice money management skills in a fun, interactive way. Their flagship products include:

  • FinMaster Board Game: Designed for ages 13 to 113, taking players on an investing journey where they grow their net worth by buying assets and navigating market events strategically.
  • Fintr4Schools: A digital gamified learning platform used in grade 7 EMS classrooms, where learners become "money heroes" fighting off villains like "Saverstrain" through comic-style content and practical activities.
  • Mini Millionaires Newsletter: Weekly practical tips for parents to teach financial literacy at home

The Journey

What started as a response to everyone stressing about money in 2020 has evolved into a comprehensive financial literacy ecosystem. The duo's board game emerged almost by accident when they needed something physical to sell at a market day, but persistent customer demand convinced them to pursue it seriously.

Impact & Vision

Fintr envisions "a world where learning about money is as simple as playing a game," with plans to create games covering tax, scams, banking systems, and saving. Their work with financial institutions focuses on the principle that financially literate clients are better clients.

CBC Recognition

As a Creative Business Cup 2024 finalist, Fintr exemplifies the innovative spirit and social impact that the competition celebrates, using creativity to address real-world challenges in financial education.
